South Carolina author Ellen Malphrus's novel Untying the Moon introduces us to Bailey Martin, a heroine "in motion, lighting out for the territory ahead." Ellen's own love for the South Carolina Lowcountry and her "lush, lyrical language" infuse the novel with the marvelous as Bailey journeys down the East Coast, tracing the outline of her life's past and possibilities. Ron Rash celebrates the book's "kinetic heroine," and hails Ellen as "an exciting new voice in Southern fiction." Ellen splits her time between South Carolina and the Montana mountains, and she teaches at the University of South Carolina Beaufort.
